8. That Little Extra Nest Egg

An Opinion By Ieuan Dolby

I am royally fed up of reading newspapers! Advertisements and news of latest human failures seem to fill every page with dedicated frequency.

Advertisements I can accept as they are like the cracks in British pavements! Annoying but once known about can be skipped over easily. Human failings though are an entirely different matter.

By failings I mean news items that release information gleamed on some new Priest, Politician, Accountant, Dean, Vicar, Chairman or General who has been corrupted in one form or another (the General more likely having sold the weapons grade plutonium to North Korea than the School Teacher, but nothing surprises anymore). In fact stories like this fall out of newspapers and make messes on carpets, they dribble over tables and leave grease stains on stairs!

Okay, so another company has been fiddling the books and it was entirely the lone accountants fault! Right-on..we all believe that now don't we! Strange how the money was never found and that those pure and untouchable directors seem to be richer than ever before! That accountant must have been very, very (very) clever indeed! And now that Priest who was caught messing around with little boys, where on earth did he learn how to do something like that from - can't have been from his peers now can it? That extremely kindly and totally honest chairman who worked his way up through life to this exalted position (walked to school in bare-feet as his parents couldn't afford shoes) is now being convicted of large scale company fraud. That school teacher who entered the profession for a love of children is now being done for rape of a minor! What happened?

Let's try and sum-up this terrible world somehow to maybe clear the fog that surrounds those in power! Let's say that the average person has good intentions, but when in charge, in control and in power something snaps inside! Overall the world is one cesspit of corruptibility and those who seem pure today more than likely have just not been caught out yet. They could be tomorrow's article, or maybe they will manage to hide their impurities for a while longer.

In fact it would suffice to say that even with good initial intentions most people in power have (or soon will) shrug their shoulders and mutter "if you can't beat them, join them".

I myself have recently found a way to cope with this mad and corrupt society. I still buy newspapers and I also buy a bag of flour. I then make a lot of papier-mache paste and then I go outside and fill-in all of those hundreds of cracks in the pavement.
