The Psychiatrists Job
Knowledge of the mind is not the first criterion for the job; a fortune teller could slide into the chair and succeed very well, thank you very much! The profession deals with the human mind, something that nobody really knows anything about. Quite often a psychiatrist needs the services of another to cope with the stress of the day, which just goes to show that the occupation has a rather large flaw in it.
But a professional mind-dabbler has the ability to draw out a patient's black-hole, to disassemble then rebuild a mind like a DIY expert would do with a most complicated kitchen cabinet! And to do this requires nothing more than a soothing voice, an understanding and calm demeanor and the amazing ability to repeat everything back as a question.
At the end of the day we are our own best psychiatrists. All else being equal the average person knows what the rights and wrongs of life are, where it has all gone wrong and what needs to be done to correct it - it just helps if somebody else draws the picture!
