The American Dream

The Good Ol' US of A is a country built on the sweat of an Irishman's pick, or was it a Mexicans, a Frogs, a Dutchies, a Scots, a Red Indians, a slaves or that of a lost Peruvian Monk? America is (was) the land of hope, where the voice could be heard and dreams could be freely realised. It's written into the constitution!

That was then, now might just be a different story

The United States is a vast country, each state, each city even, possessing a defining culture that is as different from the next as an Irishman is to a Peruvian Monk. In Miami, tits, bums and image rule the roost. In Deep South Louisiana (on the bayou) the locals proudly announce that they still have a railway line and he who dares cross might not be going back again alive. Drive an SUV to work in New York and be stuck in a traffic jam for three hours is to be normal and to keep a gun in the Ford Pick-up (just incase a bear happens along) is deemed acceptable in Philadelphia.

The one thing that Americans tend to have in common is a loud voice, the ability to assume that all other people are inferior and to tell their life stories before even introducing themselves.

Gee, I hope they have a sense of humour"
